The European Media Forum was founded in Brussels in 2018 by a group of journalists and media researchers who shared a worry: that trust in the media was collapsing faster than anyone was working to rebuild it. Not because journalism had suddenly got worse, but because too little of it was accountable, transparent or accessible to the people it claimed to serve.
We are an independent, non-profit forum. We publish original reporting on how media works, produce free media-literacy resources for the public, and support citizen journalists in the places professional coverage has abandoned.
We're funded by individual member contributions and independent grants from foundations that support press freedom. We do not accept funding that comes with editorial conditions, and we publish our major funders each year. This is what lets us report on the media industry without fear or favour.
